What do you call education? How do you see education? Is it just to go through a particular number of years acquiring some bunch of certificates and at the end get a job and earn a good salary? What have you been told about it? How can we make the most out of college?
Before I go deep into it, I would like to let you know that this life is once and how would you feel when being graced with 86400 seconds a day and then realize you don’t really make the most out of it but rather end up utilizing and consuming it seeking for external validation(getting certificates for the sole aim of just accomplishing that acquisition).
What if there was more to life than just certificates. We are fortunate enough to be in this era but then having tons of information being fed into us that isn’t relevant might turn out futile in the long run. Let me make mention of some of the great men in the world. Some didn’t require a bunch of certificates to bring into fruition their plans on a global scale.
The purpose of this article isn’t to discourage you from acquiring certificates or going to school but rather for you to also make the most of what you literally have.
There are some goals and aspirations that we resolve to effect but most times they seem to end up in the trash can consigned to oblivion, smashed by our external expectations from people and by their checklist of validations.
How would you feel when you went through school with that outstanding goal and objective still burning in its etched region in your mind or you’ve probably been working on it for so through your college years? Better if those aspirations are centred on what you can give the society and the positive effects that can be contributed by you in your society or the world at large.
Through the following steps below, we would be able to harness our potential and be the superhumans we are meant to be and also be able to make the most out of college:
1. Have A Goal
At the beginning of college or before starting, it would be imperative for you to have a goal. Goals are just like destinations. Imagine being given a car with an integrated GPS and not knowing where to go.
In such condition, you can easily be egged on by someone to virtually any place without you given the luxury of trying out areas that piqued your interest. Another possible outcome is that during such situations of having no goal we tend to plateau or remain dormant.
There are myriads of objectives and goals that one could have. For instance, one can decide to discover the next possible breakthrough in areas like medicine, space exploration, education, economics, charity and more.
Goals give us a root and firm stand and make us not to be drifted by ambient energies. Goals are the bedrock of work. It’s usually better to have goals that are aligned with our passions or talents and also geared towards making positive impacts in the world. You can read about passions by clicking “here” which would help you to make the most out of college.
2. Work
The picture above might seem funny but the reality of things is that to really be that Superman or woman we do need to work our ass off.
Having a goal without making moves to realize them is just like having a goal to have a strong physique like the picture above and not really working out or exercising to reach the goal. Bear in mind that worthwhile stuff takes lots of time and hard work to achieve.
We need to be antsy to work when we have put up a set goal. It isn’t easy most times but then the hard work and stress of getting there are usually compensated with the thrill of seeing our passions coming to fruition. To make the most out of college is worth it.
Learning new stuff outside our field of study in school might seem daunting in respect to time management but just know that even if a little time is dedicated to that goal and is backed up by consistency, in the long run, you would be surprised by how much you have accomplished.
Most times goals emerge and are spun out from previous goals. Imagine learning to code with the objective of being good in algorithms and along the line, an idea springs out that seems potentially viable to generate lots of revenue or to bring help to the health sector.
If your goal is to learn to code. Then you need to dedicate your time and develop good time management skills to learn it. This might seem daunting when your goals are derailed from your specialization in school. For instance, studying law and learning to code.
Reading books that would help to fuel your desires and enlighten you more on your goals would really help and would definitely take you a long way and would help you to make the most out of college.
If you want to build stuff don’t just read about it but get your hands dirty. For our brains get recalibrated and fine-tuned to an objective when we tend to work towards a goal than when we only make mere wishes, aspirations or only read about them. What I’m trying to say is that practicality is the game changer.
In the long run, it boils down to did you do it or not. And the direct answer still remains yes or no. Using the OKR(Objectives and Key Result) techniques would be recommended. You can watch this Ted talk on it by clicking “here“. The would help you to develop the skills that you can apply to make the most out of college and in other facets of your life.
3. Generating Revenue For Your Goals.
Imagine having the desire to initiate moves geared towards your goal but hindered by money. For instance, you want to learn how to build a radio-controlled car, you have fantasized about how magnificent and amazing your project would turn out but you are hindered with the capital to purchase necessary parts.
Not only are you constrained to expand your knowledge or explore beyond your current state but then the experience and achievement leave subtly from your fingertips and at last you end up wishing that you had money. Imagine when you are solely the main limit to the height or the achievement you want to attain. Imagine living the life where the money isn’t a barrier to the realization of your dreams.
The good news is that there are tons of ways to generate revenue. Not only would you be able to fuel your dreams monetarily but you become capable of getting what you want and also have fun. There are actually tons of ways to generate revenue but I would concentrate on making money online.
Why I am making reference to making money online is because it is one of the most popular strategies for generating revenues. Not only would you benefit from using this technique but you would also get acquainted with the current underlying technologies back it thereby boosting your skillset.
I made an explicit tutorial on this which can be accessed by clicking “here“. Endeavour to access that article and make the most out of it.
4. MAKE FRIENDS
Friends are core ingredients to our makeups and the power of friendship cannot be overemphasized. From sharing of ideas to loving, to meeting your partner for life, to initiating a startup, to acing academically and lots more are being influenced by friendship.
Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, you should endeavour to have friends even if its a small circle of friends. You need friends to make the most out of college.
The type of friends you keep also has a dramatic effect on you, so try and keep good friends that are willing to improve you or are willing to let you improve them.
After school, you might still remain in academia or not but your friends are still there despite where you are. Try to keep friends that you can easily communicate your deep thoughts to and are ready to give you the best of advice. In as much as you keep friends, try not to only be a friend in need but a friend indeed. It would greatly help you to make the most out of college.
5. HAVE FUN
Despite all the plans, determination and hard work, you should try and create room for fun or play time. Having fun is essential in order to make the most out of college. Whether by gaming, hanging out with friends, sporting or some other means, it has been scientifically proven that fun induces happiness and vigour into humans, it also reduces your susceptibility to depression which has quite a positive effect to our minds psychologically.
6. JOIN A CLUB
There are tons of clubs with various objectives ranging from technology, drama, debate, gaming, and lots more. Being a member of a club that shares your aspirations or interest helps to boost your activeness in your area of interest. If you are in a school without a club of your interest, try and initiate one forming an elite team. Also, try to be an active member that contributes to the development of the club. Leadership traits can also be learnt in such groups.
In conclusion, try to adhere to these tips and be optimistic as success is around the corner.
